MIST: Anchoring Bangladesh’s Semiconductor Workforce and Execution Capability

As Bangladesh embarks on its journey toward becoming a knowledge-driven, innovation-led economy, the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) has emerged as a critical national institution translating vision into execution. Through its leadership role in the Center of Research Excellence in Semiconductor Technology (CREST) ecosystem and the BOOST national virtual hub, MIST is shaping the country’s semiconductor workforce, infrastructure, and delivery capacity.

MIST's role was prominently highlighted during the official inauguration of the Center of Research Excellence in Semiconductor Technology (CREST) on 29 December 2025 at BRAC University, Dhaka. The launch of CREST marked Bangladesh’s first structured national initiative in advanced semiconductor research, talent development, and industry-academia collaboration under the broader Silicon River Ecosystem (BEAR framework).

Within this national framework, MIST has been selected as one of the core semiconductor training centers and entrusted with leading BOOST (Bangladesh’s Online Organization for Semiconductor Talent)—the country’s first national virtual platform dedicated to semiconductor education, mentorship, and collaboration. Through BOOST, MIST is enabling mentorship, structured training pathways, project collaboration, fellowship coordination, and opportunity exchange at a national scale. The platform ensures that talent discovery and development are no longer fragmented or institution-bound, but integrated into a unified ecosystem.

At the CREST inauguration, Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant of MIST, delivered a video message reaffirming the institution’s commitment to structured workforce development, execution-oriented training, and national capacity building in semiconductors and deep-tech domains. His remarks underscored MIST’s readiness to serve as a national anchor in Bangladesh’s semiconductor and deep-tech journey.

MIST’s contributions extend to hands-on training in VLSI design, AI hardware, embedded systems, and secure electronics, as well as mentoring CREST fellowship projects and supporting national training programs aligned with global standards. The institution’s discipline-driven academic environment and focus on real-world execution uniquely position it to support both civilian innovation and strategic technology needs. Through its leadership in training infrastructure, digital talent platforms, and execution capability, MIST is playing a foundational role in transforming Bangladesh’s semiconductor ambition into sustainable national capacity.
