Seminar on “Nanotechnology in Biomedicine” Successfully Held at MIST
On 4th September 2025, the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), MIST, organized a seminar on “Nanotechnology in Biomedicine” at the General Mustafiz Multipurpose Hall (GMMPH), Tower-1, MIST. The event attracted students, faculty, and professionals interested in emerging biomedical technologies.
The respected Commandant of MIST, Maj Gen Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The session was opened with a welcome address by Col Mohammad Shariful Islam, psc, Head, Department of BME, emphasizing the department’s vision to foster innovation at the intersection of engineering, biology, and medicine.
The distinguished guest speaker, Prof Dr. Md. Sharif Hossain, Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Jahangirnagar University, presented his pioneering research on the applications of nanotechnology in clinical practice and its transformative role in healthcare. His talk covered how engineering at the nanoscale enables diagnostics, targeted drug delivery, advanced imaging, and regenerative therapies, allowing treatments to be more precise, efficient, and less invasive. Nanostructures and nanomaterials, by virtue of their unique physicochemical properties, can also help overcome challenges such as drug resistance, side-effects, and early detection of diseases.
The session was highly engaging and followed by an interactive Q&A segment, where participants discussed ethical, safety, and translational aspects of nanomedicine development.
The seminar concluded with a crest handover, a vote of thanks, and a group photo session. Overall, the event was a resounding success, offering both inspiration and knowledge to the BME community and encouraging students to explore research in this rapidly advancing interdisciplinary field.
