Team NOVONIL Secures 2nd Position in South Asia at AIAA Design/Build/Fly Competition 2024
Team NOVONIL, comprising 33 students from AE-12, AE-13, AE-14, and AE-15, was the sole participant from Bangladesh in the 2024 AIAA Design/Build/Fly (DBF) competition. The team achieved 2nd place among South Asian countries and 71st position out of 107 universities worldwide.
The AIAA Design/Build/Fly (DBF) competition is a prestigious event where student teams design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of an unmanned, electric-powered, radio-controlled aircraft. The objective for the 2024 competition was to design, build, and test an aircraft capable of performing Urban Air Mobility (UAM) missions. These missions included airplane delivery, medical transport, and urban taxi services. Team NOVONIL's aircraft, named "AKASHTORI," was meticulously designed and manufactured to meet these requirements and was presented at the Fly-Off event held in Wichita, Kansas, USA.
The team was led by Asif Hasnayeen. The chief designer was Md Ridwan Hasan and Manufacturing was led by Md Nafiz Redwan. The team members were Md. Shah Ishrak, B. M. Saif, Nahian Fairuz Haque, Nahida Islam, Md. Shamieul Haque Sujon, Maisha Farzana Antora, Abdur Rahman Ovy, Morsalin Sheikh, Shakib Al Sifat, Sudipto Tushar Das, Hassan Tawsif Tazwar, Md. Khairul Alam Mohim, Md. Redwan Iqbal, Nafim Ershad, Mehnaz Elahee Mohona , Jahanoor Islam, Saikat Khan, Md. Asif Bhuiyan, Shahriar Nafim, Uswe Sein Chowdhury, Navid Newaz, Farhan Sadik Rafi, Kazi Tauhid Mukbol Hussain, Mohammad Mashhunur Rahman, Swapnil Endow, Al-Amin Sharkar, Sifat Perves, Mehrab Hossen, Mehedi Hassan, Emon Ahmed, Md Khalid Hasan. The faculty advisors were Lec Saif Reza, Lec Debanan Bhadra, and RA MD Masiat Roushan Masrafee.
