Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), the pioneer Technical Institutes of Armed Forces, started its journey from 19 April 1998. MIST envisages creating facilities for military as well as civil students from home and abroad dedicated to pursue standard curriculum leading to graduation degree, postgraduate degree, and Ph.D. degree. As an Institution without any gender biasness, MIST is already on steady stride upholding its motto “Technology for Advancement”. MIST remains committed to contributing to the wider spectrum of national and international educational arena and play a significant role in the development of Human Resources and ardently pursuing its goal to grow into a “Centre of Excellence”. Foreign students from Srilanka were admitted for the first time in academic session 2008-2009. Presently students from Maldives, Palestine, and Afghanistan are also studying different engineering programs in five Engineering Departments.
As an endeavor to make MIST an Internationally standard institution, MIST has been pursuing to establish link and collaboration program with reputed universities and training institution of the world since the begining. Right now, The Institute is maintaining close collaboration for its educational improvement with International Islamic University Malaysia (IIU), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), University Teknologi Mara Malaysia (UTMM), and Gen Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, Srilanka (KDU).
